Save Big on Heathrow Express

Heathrow is one of the biggest and busiest airports in Europe. It’s well connected to London and travellers can choose from a number of different options to get from the airport to central London (and vice-versa). One option that I’ve always liked is the aptly name Heathrow Express that connects Paddington and Heathrow. It’s fast, it’s comfortable, but it’s also not that cheap.

However if you book your tickets in advance you can definitely save quite a bit.

How much can you save?

If you book a standard ticket 45 days or more in advance the price will drop from £25 one way to £10.

Is there a downside?

Well sure, you have to book for a fixed date at least 45 days in the future.

The ticket cannot be changed.

There are no refunds.

Of course you can get to or from the airport using either the Elizabeth line or the Underground. However they can be a false economy, as I found on a recent trip, when the underground simply stopped at a random station and I had to resort to getting an Uber the rest of the way to the hotel. Any savings I’d made with my choice of transport were well and truly lost!

Ultimately how you get into the city will depend on your situation. Paddington is central and very convenient for a lot of places, but if you’re going to other parts of the city one of the other options might be better.
